Hello! My name is Alexandria i’m 20 years old and love the style and history of Burlesque. I would love to learn the field and maybe one day perform. Im not sure where to get started so any advice would be wonderful! Thank you.

      Hi Alexandria,

Thanks for asking, it’s a pretty commmon question. The best way to get started is attend a few shows. After you’ve gotten an idea about what diversity there is in the metroplex, you can check the above classes page for studios or troupes that regularly have burlesque classes.

Alternately, just jump right in and take a class and absorb some shows.

You can’t really go wrong with either choice.

      Thanks!

I would love to get involved in some local drag king shows, but I don’t really even know where to start! Any advice? Thanks!

    • davcorn says:

      Hi Miranda,

Your best bet that I know of is to go to the Tuesday Tease at Sue Ellens. They have regular shows that have both burlesque and drag king performers. Introduce yourself to some performers, they may be able to guide you, quite a few got their start there.

      Thanks!

Is burlesque only for thin people? I would love to take a class but i’m afraid to be ridiculed because of my weight.

    • davcorn says:

Burlesque is for people of all sizes and all instructors listed welcome all new students with open arms. 🙂
